Talking About Care From Health Clinics

Hi there, I'm Kira Shepherd. When my kids were little, I spent a lot of time at the health care clinic. Children need an exam when they hurt themselves or run a high fever. Any other distressing symptoms are also best explored by a qualified physician. Thankfully, my local health care clinic always helped reassure me that the kids were healthy and developing well. I will share information about common diagnostic procedures and treatments performed at health care clinics. I will talk about alternatives, like going to the hospital or treating at home. My site will cover common symptoms and complications caused by a wide range of illness and injuries. Please visit my site often to learn more information. Thank you.

Allergies 101: Definition, Treatment, And Prevention

by Jack Long

Allergies are common, and though there is usually no cure for them, it is important to learn more about them in order to lower your risk of suffering from allergies and increase your chances of avoiding allergies altogether. Read to learn what exactly allergies are, what different types their are, how to treat your allergies, and how to prevent them in the future:

What are Allergies?

Allergies happen when you body comes in contact with a foreign substance, such as pollen. Your body produces antibodies to try and destroy the foreign substance, also called an allergen, and this attack to the substance causes usually mild inflammation. Allergies are very common, though they can be an annoyance because of the inflammation and itchiness they cause.

However, if you are have a reaction that results in trouble breathing, go to a doctor immediately because this may be anaphylaxis, which is a whole body reaction to an allergen.

Different Types of Allergies

Allergies are not strictly limited to pollen. You may get allergies from other things too, such as medication or certain types of food. The symptoms vary for each type of allergy, but if you realize that you have a bad reaction to food you ate, or from a bug that stung you, you may more than likely be allergic.

If this occurs, immediately go to the closest emergency room for care. The reaction may not be too dangerous, but it is much better to be safe than sorry.

Allergy Treatment

There are a wide variety of over the counter nasal sprays for someone who knows that they have allergies and want to be rid of the symptoms. However, if you are not sure, go to a doctor to be tested for allergies. If you do, then you may follow your doctor's advice over which medication would be best for you. Your doctor may also suggest you get a shot, which helps relieve allergy symptoms as well.

Preventing Allergies

The only way to prevent allergies is to avoid that particular allergen. For example, if you have an allergy to cats, try and stay away from them. If you are allergic to a certain type of insect bite or sting, try and wear insect repellent to keep that specific type and other bugs away while you are outside.  Be sure you know 100% what is causing your allergy, and then you can take appropriate measures to avoid that allergen and enjoy being symptom free.
